Whether you’re a first-time mum, or a mum of 20, pregnancy anxiety affects everyone in some way or another. You are not alone wondering whether you're eating the right things, getting enough rest, or if your baby is doing somersaults in there at the right rate. It's all part of the wild ride of pregnancy anxiety. The good news is, there are things you can do to help reduce your anxiety level and keep that calm feeling.

1.     Hypnobirthing. One of the most powerful ways to get your pregnancy anxiety under control is by using hypnobirthing. Hypnobirthing is a toolkit of techniques and knowledge to help you manage your labour and control the controllables as best you can. You can read about the BENEFITS of Hypnobirthing and how it really works here in another blog post.

2.     Friendships. Connecting with other mums-to-be can be a great forum to help calm your nerves, as these are other people in the same boat with whom you can chat about pregnancy anxiety, worries and the pressure you’re thinking. Joining a pregnancy yoga class, or local mum group can be a game-changer. Sharing your experiences and hearing from others who have been through it or are going through it right alongside you can be really reassuring. Suddenly, you realize that those seemingly irrational worries are more common than you think. You can read more about the importance of social connection on the Tommy's website.

3.     Knowledge and education. Let's talk about Dr. Google. We've all been there, typing our symptoms into the search bar to look for remedies for pregnancy anxiety, only to be convinced that our baby is going to be born with three heads. Trust me, I get it. But sometimes, ignorance truly is bliss. Instead of frantically googling every twinge or hiccup about pregnancy anxiety, consider calling your midwife or GP. They're the experts and can provide accurate, personalized information to ease your mind.

4.     Channel it. The nesting instinct is like a pregnancy superpower that turns you into a cleaning and organizing machine. Channel your pregnancy anxiety into baby preparations like setting up the nursery, reading about baby sleep etc. can be very therapeutic.

5.     Self care. Self care is vital. Yes, I know, it sounds like a cliché, but it's true. Take time for yourself, whether it's a warm bath, a good book, or binge-watching your TV show. You're not just a vessel for a growing baby; you're still you, and your mental well-being matters. You can read some more self care tips here.

6.     Calm breathing. Breathing exercises aren't just for yoga class. When pregnancy anxiety strikes, take a moment to practice some deep breathing. Inhale for a count of four, and exhale for seven. It's a simple yet effective way to kick start your calm nervous system, and stabilize your pregnancy anxiety.

And let's not underestimate the power of a good support system. Whether it's your partner, family, or friends, don't be afraid to share your fears and concerns with your pregnancy anxiety. Sometimes, just talking it out can provide the relief you need. And hey, if they offer to give you a foot rub or run out for that late-night ice cream craving, even better!

So, there you have it – a few friendly tips to keep pregnancy anxiety in check. Remember, it's okay to feel a little jittery, but don't let it steal the joy from this incredible journey. You've got this, mama!
