Common questions about hypnobirthing antenatal classes
Here are some commonly asked questions about Hypnobirthing
What is hypnobirthing?
It is a group of techniques taught during pregnancy which helps stack the odds in your favour of having a positive birth experience, by preparing you practically, mentally and emotionally for birth.
Hypnobirthing provides you with a complete toolkit of techniques to help you cope with, and manage the pain of labour, to help you either until you can access to medical pain relief, or in place of it, whatever your choices are. The techniques stem from the understanding that fear and tension in your body can increase the pain you feel, and can therefore increase the risk of complications during birth. By using hypnobirthing techniques, you teach your body to "relax on demand" and help reduce the fear in your subconscious mind, replacing it with secure beliefs. This leaves you feeling more in control, and less like a passive recipient of what plays out during birth.
Hypnobirthing mums report lower levels of birth trauma, and an improved overall birth experience. The methods are evidence based, and supported by science. Hypnobirthing courses also cover in depth, your choices and options for labour, how to advocate for yourself, and how your birth partner can best support you to ensure the experience is a shared one, and they are not an onlooker.
All my courses offer full, in depth antenatal birth preparation. The location is face to face antenatal classes Norwich, or online nationwide. Hypnobirthing prepares you more than any other course for a positive birth and labour.
When should I do my Hypnobirthing course?
Any time from 16+ weeks is ideal. Many parents to be prefer to wait until after the 20 week scan. The earlier the better as it gives you maximum time to practice the techniques so they become second nature to use during birth.
Can you teach yourself hypnobirthing?
Yes, hypnobirthing classes can be completed through self-study or with the help of a book or an online course. However, it is preferable to seek professional guidance from a qualified hypnobirthing instructor to ensure the techniques are practiced correctly and to provide support up to the birth.
